I retired from full time teaching and being a deputy-head in 2002. I used to inspect independent schools.
After 35 years' experience teaching English to pupils from 8 -18, I retired and now live in Clifton, Bristol, I am a qualified teacher of pupils with mild specific learning difficulties but work mainly as a mainstream English tutor for Key Stage 3,4 and 5. I have tutored students for most examinations, including Key Stage 3, Common Entrance, GCSEs, A level English Literature and Language. I have also worked with a few adults working for a degree, mostly helping with essay-writing techniques.
If it helps, I will assess just what you, as a parent, are looking for and then, if appropriate, I will assess the precise needs of your son or daughter. Then the work we do together will be tailored to your individual requirements based on a secure knowledge of the student's strengths and weaknesses. I am fully acquainted with the various specifications of the examinations. I tutor in my home or at yours, if you wish. I do not teach English as a Foreign Language.
