As a recently retired Chartered Engineer I'm looking to help students to improve, and gain confidence in, their maths skills. This might be helping with subjects that the student finds difficult, catching up with missed work due to Covid, assisting with coursework, or stretching a budding genius.
I can also tutor physics and chemistry up to GCSE level.
I am flexible on how to manage "social distancing". I can tutor at my home, I can travel to you, or we can use the internet. If I travel to you I would seek a contribution towards my time & cost depending on your location.
I have mentored many engineers in the early years of their careers, and have helped a number of friends, relatives and local students through their GCSE and A-Levels in maths, physics and chemistry.
Since joining FirstTutors I have helped a few students with their Maths.
First, understand the pupil. I therefore offer the first lesson free so that we can get to know each other and so that I can understand the pupil's strengths and weaknesses and where focus is needed.
Second, build from the bottom up. Students need to be confident with the basic principles in order to understand more complex problems.
Third, patience.
Fourth - learn your times tables. This is fundamental for maths, and you should not need a tutor for that!
