I am an experienced and qualified teacher of Mathematics with many years of tutoring experience across all ages and aspirations. I enjoy working with individuals and watching them develop confidence and skills in areas that they were unsure initially. I am happily married and have a family of 2 children in Secondary Education: my daughter spends most of her time studying at home due to a long term rare medical condition but has an excellent set of GCSE results. My wife is a musician who tutors piano, recorder and music theory.
I have taught both privately and in schools for more than 20 years. I have taught children from aged 8 years up to and including A level Further Mathematics and Physics/Chemistry; I have also coached students for entrance exams to public schools, or Oxbridge. I have also helped adults needing to prepare for assessments, wanting to help their children or simply wanting to improve their own confidence levels. I am familiar with all the main syllabuses in mathematics -having taught in and managed maths departments in a variety of schools.
I believe in hands on learning. The student needs to feel 'in charge' and understand what they can do to improve their skills. Each of us has a preferred strategy and style and to be its most effective, the tutoring experience needs to quickly mould to this and adapt as needs or priorities change.
I usually start with a brief, one to one skills assessment (not just a standpard test) which will help us identify the "pinch points" which need to form the focus of the first few lessons.
