I am a retired ex Head of Mathematics, ex Deputy Headteacher and ex Principal Examiner and have a passion for Mathematics and helping students. I now work as a Mathematical Consultant.
I have taught Mathematics across the age and ability range from Year 7 to Year 13 from 1966 to 2001, when I retired. I taught O level; GCSE; O level and GCSE Additional Mathematics; A level Pure Mathematics; A level Applied Mathematics (Mechanics); ALevel Further Mathematics. Unfortunately I cannot offer A level Statistics or Decision Mathematics.
I also have vast examination experience: I was a Chief Examiner at O level from 1989 to 1995 for the (now amalgamated into AQA) SEG (Southern Examining Group), writing and administrating Exam Papers and Mark schemes three times a year; I was a Senior Team Leader for GCSE and also a Team Leader and then Senior Examiner for the Key Stage 3 Exams throughout its’ history and a Senior Examiner for the Level 6 Single level tests; I was also an examiner at O level and GCSE for the Welsh Joint Examinations Board.
I have just retired from examining A level Pure Mathematics both for Cambridge International Exams Syndicate where I marked scripts from all over the world and for OCR Home Centres for over 40 years.
I also wrote seven Chapters as part of the Authoring Team with the OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS for the new A level Specification text books in Mathematics and Further Mathematics for both AQA and Edexcel which commenced in September 2018. I also wrote a GCSE textbook in the mid 1990s and was a contributor to three other sets of books since then, one at KS3 level and two at GCSE.
I also proof read Maths Textbooks and do Answer Checks for other Authors' books.
I also wrote a diagnostic set of revision examination questions in 2006 - 2007 for a private education system in India.
I have vast experience of both teaching and examining so I am extremely well placed to help students with their problems understanding Mathematics.
I am patient and easy to get on with and explain my subject knowledge very clearly and concisely. I don't mind how many times I have to repeat something or explain it in different ways until the student understands what I am teaching. Being a very experienced examiner I know exactly what exam boards want and can thus help students maximise their exam grade potential.
At the moment I prefer to teach remotely via Skype but can travel if necessary.
I am also available during the Summer Holidays to help you 'get started' with your new A Level or GCSE course.
