I worked for around 25 years in the electronics industry, specialising in the fields of microwaves and fibre optics, before taking a PGCE at Cambridge University and working as a Physics teacher for the remainder of my career.
I taught for 15 years at King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford, mostly in the post of Head of Department. This school is a highly academic school with a large number of A level students, so I acquired a lot of experience of teaching such students, including a good number who were aiming to study at Cambridge or Oxford universities.
My approach to teaching is centred on asking questions, often using a textbook for relevant diagrams or pictures. I am comfortable to develop a lesson around the answers obtained from this questioning. In tutoring I would not expect to set significant written work, but I would be creating and discussing worked examples for the student to take away and keep if they wished to.
