Hello! I am an outstanding and highly experienced Psychology Lead Practitioner and Head of Social Sciences (including psychology) in an Ofsted-outstanding grammar school. I hold an MSc (Distinction) in Applied Psychology, a First Class Honours BA in Psychology and QTS (Outstanding). I have taught at my current school for the past 10 years, consistently achieving outstanding results, the highlight of which were A-level results of 28% A* and 100% A* to C (90% A* to B) for a cohort of 63 students of varying abilities and levels of diligence. I understand how to achieve the top grades in psychology and more importantly, I equip students with the core understanding and skills to ensure they consistently earn fantastic marks, irrespective of their starting point in psychology. I am also an AQA examiner.
Prior to teaching, I worked as a social psychologist and my genuine love for the discipline and real world experiences, particularly related to child development and research methods, also help students engage with course content by really bringing it to life in a fun, engaging and relatable way, which helps students better memorise, understand and apply the material leading to more coherent and thorough responses.
I have successfully taught undergraduate, A-level, GCSE and International Baccalaureate psychology over the past 15 years. I equip my students with the understanding and skills they need to achieve the top grades, irrespective of their starting point in psychology. I have an excellent track record of teaching and supporting students through patience, compassion, dedication and rapport - all of which I believe are key to facilitating progress. I am highly experienced with the AQA and Edexcel exam boards. I am enhanced DBS cleared, fully up to date with safeguarding training and protocols and am experienced in maximising outcomes for SEND, SEMH and EAL students, making sure all students can access the success criteria in the ways that best suit their individual circumstances.
I am also a former lecturer and tutorial leader of undergraduate psychology at The University of the West Indies.
I previously tutored for some years with phenomenal success rates and high student and parent satisfaction but took a 4-year break to focus my efforts on first heading up the Science Faculty and subsequently the Social Sciences Faculty. I am now happily tutoring again some evenings and ready to take on a few more students.
I am currently offering online tuition, which is highly interactive and provides tutees with as much support and engagement as they receive face to face. I will also mark set practice questions outside of tutoring sessions for no additional fee and provide detailed feedback at the start of the next lesson. I also provide flexible support for my students between tuition sessions should they have homework or other subject-related queries. Parents are copied into all correspondence exchanged between myself and tutees. I very much welcome parents discussing their child's progress with me as a normal and expected part of the tutoring process - parents may involve themselves as much or as little as they wish as we have the same goal, which is to ensure your child fulfills their potential in psychology and that they do so in a positive, supportive and focussed environment.
