I am a qualified Primary School teacher and have taught Foundation Stage and KS1 for the past twenty plus years, both overseas and in the UK. I am currently working as a Year 1 teacher, having also taught Year 3 and Reception. I love working with younger children in the first few years of school.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught Reception Year for many years as a class teacher and taught as a specialist teacher in Year 1,2 and 3 teaching Drama and Design Technology. In my role as a Reception and Year 1 teacher I am RWI trained but have knowledge of other systems, believing a mixed approach usually works best when learning to read and write. I have many years experience teaching children of Primary and Secondary school age in English as a second language. I have tutored English as well as Maths to help children reach their full potential in these subjects. I am determined to help children have a solid foundation and thorough understanding of key concepts in these subjects. Having a thorough understanding of how children learn and how they can be supported to progress, puts me in a great position to help children who need a little boost.

Tutoring Approach

I believe in finding the way that the child learns best and working with their unique learning style. At this stage, learning should be both fun and meaningful. It is really important to grasp the concepts that will be built on in Maths and Literacy. I have a creative approach to learning activities and I am patient when teaching children, trying different methods and using lots of repetition until they have grasped the concepts. Having a thorough understanding of how children learn and how they can be supported to progress, puts me in a great position to help children who need a little boost. I believe a huge part of success in learning is building confidence and the right attitude to learning so these are always my first goals.
