My name is Dr Dev (MBBS, MSc, MRCP, PGCert HBE, FHEA) and I am a medical doctor (specialist registrar [SpR]) working at St George's Hospital, and the Royal Free Hospital. I have >4000 hours of tutoring experience, and have taught students from numerous medical schools in the UK: SGUL, KCL, UCL, Imperial, QMUL, BSMS, Southampton, Birmingham, Leicester, Newcastle, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and more! I also teach students from abroad online (e.g. Hong Kong, Malaysia, USA, Canada, Poland, Greece, Hungary).
I have been an OSCE examiner at three different UK medical schools. I have have also written questions for MCQ/SBA exams, and written OSCE stations for penultimate and final year exams.
During medical school I ranked in the top 10% of the graduating cohort in my final year. As a post-graduate I have completed a formal teaching degree, and have passed the Membership of the Royal College of Physician part one and two examinations with high grades. I have also completed MRCP PACES, a post-graduate OSCE, with high grades.
I have considerable teaching experience. I have conducted numerous medical teaching courses in the past, and a recent one was rated 4.86/5 stars. I received 4.94/5 stars based on the statement "I would recommend Dr Dev's teaching programme to other students", 4.95/5 stars based on the statement "Dr Dev was a knowledgeable teacher", and 4.97/5 stars based on the statement "Dr Dev was an effective communicator". Since then I have conducted local, national and international teaching programmes which have been equally successful.
I have also tutored many students in the past, all of which have found my teaching thoroughly useful. I have taught all years from first year medical students to final years (and everything in between)! This includes numerous medical students from numerous different medical schools (St George's, Kings, Imperial, UCL, Bart's, Birmingham, Brighton, Southampton) and I aim to teach on your specific curriculum. I am also experienced in teaching nursing students, and those in biomedical sciences.
I have been given numerous teaching awards in my career. Most notably the Kingston Hospital Foundation NHS Trust awarded me the "Outstanding contribution to teaching" award, and St George's Hospital awarded me an "Excellence as a Peer Tutor and Mentor" at their annual Excellence in Education event. I have also recently gained a formal teaching certification, and hold a formal teaching post alongside my clinical job with a London university. This serves as a testament that I love teaching!
For anyone trying to get into medicine I can help with this. I have worked at over 20 interview days and I have also interviewed on the panel for entry into medical school. In July 2015 I also ran an "Entry to Medicine" summer school programme which was associated with a highly commended London medical school. I understand what it takes to get into medical school both via the UCAS personal statement as well as excelling in the interview. I am fully aware of the criteria for which candidates are examined upon in interviews. I am willing to offer a personal "Entry to Medicine" course for anyone wishing to gain entry into a UK medical school. For the 2015 intake I tutored multiple students who were all given an offer for entry to at least one medical school.
I have a keen interest in teaching and plan on devoting much of my future career as a doctor to teaching. I am a friendly and patient person who teaches through positive reinforcement. I will never make my tutees feel put down and I will strive for my tutee's success. Those who use my services should expect high quality teaching and nothing less. I will teach you in a way that will help you achieve A-grades through understanding, therefore avoiding endless memorisation! ('No one has ever taught it like that before, that makes it so much easier' is a regular comment I get from my students!)
