I am a professional tutor, teacher and examiner with 30 years experience. My students have successfully gained entry to Oxbridge and other Russell Group university reading Medicine, Veterinary Sciences, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Biochemistry and other Science related degrees.
Many of my students have dramatically improved their exam grades. I am patient, creative and friendly and can cover the material more thoroughly than is possible in classroom time, as well as tailoring it to a specific students requirements. My approach helps to improve my students exam technique and with that I often see their confidence grow.
I have extensive teaching experience as a Biology and Chemistry teacher, having been a Head of Department in both state and private schools and Colleges. I have taught all the major exam boards including AQA, OCR, Edexcel and Eduqas. I have taught Chemistry and Biology to GCSE and A-Level. I have also taught Physics and Maths to GCSE. My 30 years of experience tutoring on all UK A-level and GCSE examination boards have given me a unique insight into the problems encountered by students preparing for examinations.
I use a student centred approach, adapting the tuition to the students learning style. I assess what is needed free of charge (by asking the student for an annotated copy of their specification/syllabus) and make an individual study plan before we start.
In each session I give the student board-specific notes. We then focus on specific areas of weakness, finding new ways of explaining the key concepts and working through topic specific exam questions, tailored to the particular needs of each student. We develop a customized strategy to turn problematic areas into strong foundations.
At the end of each session, I will suggest practice test sections that will focus on subject matter needing reinforcement through targeted self-study. These can then be returned to me for marking and feedback. In the following session, I like to go through this feedback with this student and agree further targetted work where needed.
Closer to exam time we work through whole exam papers. Again I am happy to mark these, offering useful feedback for further self study where appropriate.
