I have a degree in Physics and a Doctorate in Atmospheric Physics, both from Oxford University. It's not that long since my children were teenagers, so I have first hand experience of the pressures on students. It can be very hard to make the 'jump' from GCSE studies to 'A' level, which requires a much more rigirous approach. University application is a very stressful time, and trying to achieve grade offers and perhaps obtain relevant work experience puts a lot of strain on families. I try to make both students' and parents' lives easier.
Through working at Techniquest (a science discovery centre in Wrexham) for several years, I have had a lot of experience of explaining science and maths concepts to students at all levels. I have studied teacher training in secondary science, which has given me an invaluable insight into day-to-day life in a large secondary school, but decided that I would much prefer to work with students on a one-to-one basis. I have been tutoring full time since September 2010, with students of a wide range of abilities. I have also taught International Baccalaureate at standard level.
My philosophy is that if a student has not understood something, that is because I have not explained it in the right way for them. Each lesson I give is individually tailored to the needs of that student, taking into account not only what they have already been taught, but also the other subjects they are studying at school. I have a friendly and relaxed approach, and my students enjoy their lessons.
