I am a qualified Primary school teacher with over 24 years teaching experience. I qualified, and taught, in England for a year and then moved back to Inverness where I have been teaching for 23 years. So I am familiar with the National Curriculum and the Curriculum for Excellence. I also have a variety of experience working with families who home educate and learners that are taking a flexible route with their education.
I work in school part time as a class teacher and tutor the rest of the week.
I have been tutoring part time for over ten years and tutor from early level up to and including National 5.

Tutoring Experience

Over 24 years teaching experience - and still going.
I work part time in school and tutor part time. I have had 6 years experience of working as a support for learning teacher.
I currently tutor children and adult learners - ranging from early level all the way up to National 5+.

Tutoring Approach

I tutor from my home so that the learner is in a friendly, relaxed environment. I also offer online tuition.

During our first couple of sessions I will fully assess where the learner is in their understanding, where their strengths and pressures are plus assess their preferred learning style. Assessment will be continuous as we progress and tutoring will be matched to the learners needs. I gather evidence of where the learner is and we work out the next steps together so that they can see the progress that they are making.

The impact of tutoring can be significant. It provides a great opportunity to boost skills, develop confidence and improve understanding and motivation. Part of my approach is to build on study skills - these are transferable skills that will benefit in all areas of learning.

Tuition is 1:1
I am able to offer small group tuition if there is enough demand.
Sessions are booked on a six week cycle.
