Ed

  • 24 year-old, final year student at Mechanical Engineering at Bristol University (5-year Integrated Masters with a Year in Industry).
  • 1.5 years of experience as a full-time engineer.
  • Passionate about spreading an interest and intrigue into maths and it's practical applications.
  • Keen to pass on the learning opportunities and enjoyment I got from being tutored myself. I firmly believe that my tutoring style, experience and age enable me to establish a strong rapport with my students, which encourages them and creates a comfortable working relationship.

Tutoring Experience

  • Over 2 years of experience providing high-quality tutoring for secondary school students in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Biology.
  • Developed 3 students from 2 A’s, 2 B’s and 1 C to achieve 5 A*’s overall at A level and GCSE by focusing on improving their understanding of how to efficiently achieve marks and structured practice on identified weaknesses in weekly 1:1 sessions.
  • Provided sessions for students at all levels from achieving a base level of understanding for a subject to stretching the very best students to develop a passion for the subject.

Tutoring Approach

I prefer an inclusive, conversational approach to tutoring, allowing my students to take the lead on their own learning and develop a strong understanding of the subject. I like to teach a specific subject area and then ask thee student to demonstrate their understanding back to me, usually though practice questions and discussion, with the student leading with their understanding of what they have learnt. In particular, I've found the most beneficial method of tutoring goes down the path of the students taking ownership of what exactly they want to learn and me working to support them in their endeavours. This ensures the students needs are always at the heart of the teaching process.
