About me!
Hi! My name is Elina, and I am from the United Kingdom. I am pursuing a degree in Geography and Oceanography at Bangor University and a career in tutoring.
While I do not have formal paid teaching experience, I have successfully tutored and mentored students across various subjects. I have also been part of the scouting community for many years and have started to weekly volunteer as a DBS checked scout leader with all appropriate training. My goal is to foster confidence and deepen understanding, particularly during the critical stages from Primary to A-level. I earned an A* in GCSE Geography and am predicted to achieve an A or A* at A-level, equipping me with insights into the learning process.
Additionally, my involvement and high achievements in musical theatre, singing and drama has honed my communication skills and enabled me to develop an approachable teaching style.
While I have not held a formal paid teaching position, I have developed strong teaching and leadership skills through extensive experience mentoring and tutoring peers, as well as through my long-term involvement in youth leadership. These roles have allowed me to support learners in a structured, engaging, and empathetic way, both one-on-one and in small group settings.
I’ve assisted students across subjects, including geography, English (literature and language), French, German. I've helped them prepare for assessments, clarify complex topics, and develop effective study habits. These experiences have taught me the importance of adapting my approach to meet different learning needs and making academic content accessible and relatable.
Additionally, my experience as a scout leader — a position of responsibility that involves planning and delivering educational and skills-based activities for young people — has strengthened my ability to communicate clearly with parents and young people, manage group dynamics, and foster a positive learning environment. I am DBS-checked and confident working with students across a range of ages and abilities.
From personal experience, I understand the importance of tailored tutoring sessions; henceforth, I am dedicated to working with students to tailor my support to their pace, individual needs and preferred learning styles.
My methods of teaching:
Tailored Learning:
- if a student requires more visual learning or auditory learning, I will adapt my lessons/sessions to support the student
- I will tailor each session to the student's pace, needs and preferred learning styles
Engaging Methods:
- I have numerous resources at hand including powerpoints I have made that helps break down complex issues step by step in a visual learning sense with associated tasks
Interactive sessions; active recall and spaced repetitions
-To keep sessions interesting and help students retain information for the long-term simultaneously boosting memory
Progress tracking:
- regular check-ins and mini-assessments to monitor improvement and identity where extra support is needed to ensure confidence and success
Exam-focused Practice -past papers, mark schemes, technique drills and exam questions yet to come up
