Hello, I'm Emer and I’m a F2 Doctor. I read Medicine at Oxford University and I have a passion for teaching and helping students achieve their academic goals and full potential.
I am keen to support students with their revision for GCSE/A-level Biology and Chemistry exams and Undergraduate Medicine.
I am also able to help with UCAT, BMAT, personal statements, preparation for medicine interviews and Oxbridge applications, having secured 4/4 medical school offers from Oxford, UCL, Cardiff and Birmingham.
Going through the medical school application process, I have prepared for various exam styles including BMAT, UCAT, AQA, EDEXCEL exam boards and explored different styles of learning and revision for A-levels and GCSEs in Biology and Chemistry. I am also well-equipped to help students with different aspects of Medical School preparation including personal statements, interview preparation, medical school entrance exams and Oxbridge applications.
I have experience tutoring students from my school in GCSE and A-level Biology and Chemistry through peer-mentoring schemes and supported sixth form students through medicine and Oxbridge applications. I have also coached the School’s Chemistry quiz team that competed in the regional finals.
From my own personal experience both as a student and tutor, I find that the best teaching approach involves a combination of clear and thorough explanations and past exam questions. I find that this approach boosts the confidence of students when taking their exams, as the combined use of explanations and regular questioning helps students to fully understand and become comfortable with the examined content as well as time pressures of exams.
Using this active learning approach with thorough explanations not only helps gauge the student’s understanding of the content but cements this understanding over a longer period. At the start of each lesson there will be a brief discussion of objectives for the session as well as a customised recap of the previous lesson to ensure previous concepts are solidified. Example of lessons could include doing a full past paper together, working on exam technique answering exam questions correctly and carefully under timed conditions as well as explaining theories/ concepts students are finding challenging. Before closing the session, I will make sure any remaining questions/ queries regarding the content of the session are fully addressed so that my students leave the session feeling confident in their understanding of the concepts covered as well as satisfied with their progress.
