I am a prize-winning writer and Associate Professor in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Greenwich, London, where I direct the MA in Creative Writing and am responsible for admissions. I know first-hand what separates a successful university application from an unsuccessful one, as well as how to attain an A* in English Literature at A-level or GSCE; how to write a first-class essay and how to perfect and publish your own creative literary pieces.
I have been tutoring students privately for 22 years and in a university setting for 16 years, including at both Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Throughout my career, I have helped hundreds of students to attain first class undergraduate degrees and Masters degrees, as well as guide writers to publication of their first books. I have also helped a large number of students attain top GCSE and A-level results.
My expertise involves teaching students of varying age groups and abilities: from GCSE pupils to postgraduates, mature (retired) learners and first-time writers. Whether it's bridging gaps in basic literacy, introducing beginners to poetry or examining PhDs, I have done it all!
-I have experience teaching at GSCE, A-Level, BA, MA and PhD levels;
-I have experience as a first examiner, second examiner and external examiner at BA, MA and PhD levels;
-I have been responsible for curriculum development at a number of British universities;
-I can assist students with university applications, offer guidance on UCAS statements and mock interview practice;
-I am able to help potential Oxbridge students navigate college choices and other idiosyncrasies of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, having studied and taught at both of these institutions.
I firmly believe that, with the right guidance, anyone can learn to love and understand literature – even poetry! – and anyone can learn to write well: clearly, creatively and with maximum impact. I maintain exceptionally high standards in my lessons, but I am also compassionate, approachable and committed to my students’ welfare.
The breadth and depth of my literary knowledge sets me apart from other tutors: I have taught literature from the medieval period to work published yesterday, and my teaching methods never fail both to inspire a love of learning and to get results.
