I have had a break from tutoring while setting up our holiday-let business in the Peak District; but am on the look out for new tutees to support in 2025!
I have 9 years experience working as a secondary Geography teacher myself, and my husband is a current head of department, and external examiner - so I have access to all the latest specification updates and resources. I did private tutoring for three years, helping A Level and GCSE students in Science and Geography.
I have worked with a wide variety of students in seveeal different schools; all of whom made rapid and sustained progress in my Geography classes. I am adept at personalising my teaching style to suit the needs of different students and can very quickly build positive and effective relationships with those I teach.
Outside of work, I love keeping active, enjoying the great outdoors and caring for the animals at our small holding. My two daughters are learning to ride horses - a life long passion of mine, so weekends are spent mucking in at the stables.
Through my teaching and tutoring support I have helped students achieve at, and in many cases, above their target grade.
I have very strong subject knowledge and genuine interest in Geography and am confident in all areas of physical, human and environmental Geography.
Most recently I have taught and tutored AQA Geography and have a good understanding of the course specifications and structure. Having worked closely with exam specifications and mark schemes, including external examination marking, I can help students develop and hone the skills needed to interpret and respond to exam questions most effectively.
Outside of my teaching role I have also enjoyed successes tutoring young people at GCSE and A Level, ranging from supporting students lacking understanding of key concepts and terminology to those needing to develop the exam skills and written communication required to access higher grades.
I believe in helping develop students as independent learners who can identify their own strengths and weaknesses and direct their own learning.
Sessions will be flexible and varied, using resources tailored to the needs of the individual. My experience has shown me that learning through practice is far more effective than rote-learning; tutees will therefore work reguarly with exam materials to help them know how, where and when to apply their knowledge.
I thoroughly enjoy working with young people and have an upbeat, friendly manner. Tutor sessions are built on mutual respect, where patience and trust allow for mistakes to be made without embarassment, and for tutees confidence in their own ability to grow.
