Hello! I'm Esme: going into my final year studying English at Cambridge University. I have represented the University at a national level with my poetry, had writing published in various zines and enjoy acting and script editing in my free time. I am currently working on my second novel!
I have written and led educational talks to a children of a variety of ages as a Zoo Host at Chessington World of Adventures. I have volunteered at Rowan Brae School, helping to run their after school club, and directed a group of year 9s at Guildford High School for a play that I wrote. Outside of term time, I childmind families with children ages 2-12.
My GCSE/A Level English texts were Pride and Prejudice, A Streetcar Named Desire, Tess of the D’Urbevilles and Mrs Dalloway. In Drama, they were Hedda Gabler, Saved, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime.
I will tailor each lesson to where your child is looking to improve. A typical English lesson, for example, could consist of going through an essay against the marking criteria, workshopping what went well and what can be added to make the higher grade criteria with specific examples to that essay and to the text in general. If work is already marked, I can also help decode feedback from school. For the texts above (and others - studying English at Cambridge I read very widely, so do feel free to drop me a message in case I can help out with another text!) I can work with a student to create theme and character mind maps with quotes and criticism to help with the overall understanding of a text, and preparedness for future questions on it.
