I am a passionate and friendly London-based Secondary school Science teacher with a speciality in Biology. With a strong background in Neuroscience and research experience in Alzheimer's disease, I bring a deep love for Science to my tutoring. My PGCE in Science Education (with a speciality in Biology) from the University of Cambridge has equipped me with effective teaching strategies and examination preparation skills, which I've applied successfully during my teaching career at Graveney School, where I have taught KS3, GCSE, and A-level students. I'm dedicated to nurturing a comprehensive understanding of Science, fostering curiosity, and providing a supportive learning environment. Having prepared a wide range of students of varying abilities for examinations, I have lots of resources and understanding of what effective preparation looks like which I would love to share!
My passion for science was ignited during my academic journey, where I earned a degree in Neuroscience and actively engaged in Alzheimer's disease research. This experience not only equipped me with a profound understanding of the scientific world but also instilled in me a deep-seated love for the subject that I'm eager to share with my students.
Subsequently, I pursued a PGCE in Science Education (with Biology speciality) at the University of Cambridge. During this time, I completed two placements in different types of schools, where I honed a diverse range of teaching skills, including differentiation, classroom management, and innovative pedagogical techniques.
For the past two years, I have taught at Graveney School in London, where I've taught a wide spectrum of students, ranging from KS3 to GCSE and A-levels. My extensive subject knowledge allows me to cover a broad curriculum, including KS3 Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, as well as GCSE and A-level Biology. I've had the privilege of working both in classroom settings and providing individualised support, focusing on preparing students for examinations. This includes comprehensive exam practice, from mastering 6-mark questions to sharpening mathematical and experimental skills, and effective exam preparation strategies that have consistently resulted in exceptional results over the course of two years. My commitment is not just to teach the curriculum but to empower students with the skills and confidence they need to excel in the world of science.
My tutoring approach is rooted in the belief that every student has the potential to excel in Science given the right guidance and support. I foster a student-centered learning environment, tailoring my teaching methods to accommodate individual learning styles, strengths, and challenges. My aim is not just to help students understand scientific concepts but to ignite their curiosity and passion for the subject. To achieve this, I employ interactive and engaging teaching techniques, incorporating real-world and experimental examples of concepts and online interactive resources developed throughout my teaching career so far. I prioritise building a strong foundation of subject knowledge whilst also focusing on essential skills such as problem-solving and the development of effective study strategies. Moreover, I understand the importance of exam readiness, and I provide comprehensive exam preparation, including targeted practice sessions and personalised feedback to boost students' confidence and performance.
