Evan

Hi, my name is Evan and I have a passion for teaching young people in a way which gives them an excitement for learning and discovering the wonders of the world and how to understand them.

Tutoring Experience

I started out in life studying Astrophysics (yes, I also won the school prize for Physics and majored in maths as well), which has remained a passion of mine throughout my life.

My teaching route has been unconventional, however in that is a great strength. My passion is Space and Physics and as such for many years I toured schools across the southern parts of the UK leading whole days of exciting and interactive teaching on Space (as well as other subjects such as Dinosaurs, Fossils, and Biology) as part of a Mobile Planetarium group. Each day was filled with teaching hundreds of pupils about the wonders of the universe.

I have also spent most of my life as a Church of England vicar. Before you switch off if you are looking for a Physics tutor and feel this isn't a helpful part of my resume let me just say that what this allowed me to do was to develop my excellent communication skills and one-to-one approach to tutoring. Because I was the Astrophysicist vicar I was regularly invited to be the guest speaker on issues related to science and faith at Universities and community events.

Today I am no longer working in the world of the church. Instead, alongside my wife who is a Secondary School trained teacher covering Biology and Chemistry, I am now turning my passion for communication and physics towards my own journey of tutoring GCSE students and I am loving it!

Tutoring Approach

Every child gets the chance to be taught in school. If you are looking for a tutor to help your child then it is because something about the school approach isn't working as well as it should for them and they need that extra bit of help. My approach is not to be robotically wed to the tried and tested school methods, but to sit with each student, to understand them, understand their strengths and weaknesses and communicate in a fresh way to help them grow and develop in their love for Physics and their skilful application to answering each question put before them.

My approach majors on understanding the "first-principles" approach to science which means they truly understand not only HOW to apply certain methodologies but also WHY. When you understand the WHY you can do anything! When you only understand the HOW you are always vulnerable to your memory.
