Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, many years of teaching experience.
Online tutoring only, and I'm very flexible with timing.
I am a hospital Doctor and studied Graduate-Entry Medicine at the University of Cambridge. My first degree was in Physics to Masters level at Imperial College London. I have completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.
From a very young age, I have always had a passion for helping my siblings with homework and trying to explain concepts. Even at school, college and then University I was often helping to explain concepts to my peers. The opportunity to help students excel in their studies and letting them achieve their full potential is something I find very rewarding. I find it easy to put people at ease when I first meet them and enjoy being around new people.
I have been tutoring for 15 years, teaching up to A-Level Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and school/university Entrance Exams. During this time, I have taught over 800 hours with students aged from 6 to 40 years old. I have become very familiar with the syllabi of these subjects up to A-Level and normally tailor my lessons to what is required according to the relevant syllabus. My tutees have gone on to achieve the top grades through thorough exam practice in lessons.
I currently teach medical students on a regular basis in both lecture format and practical-based teaching.
I have also tutored in China for six months. I taught adults and university students English, in preparation for a range of English language proficiency tests, including the Cambridge Business English course.
In my previous work as a tutor, I have found it very rewarding to see students progress and grasp concepts which were once a mystery to them. I believe home tutoring is the ideal way to supplement the material taught in class and can be the key to instilling confidence in students in any discipline. Making subjects more accessible to students is a priority and increasing understanding of difficult concepts by explaining them in an accessible manner is key to helping students achieve the top grades.
I provide feedback to parents every couple of weeks, updating them on the progress made. Every student has a different learning style, so lessons are best taught by tailoring them to individual students’ needs. Focusing on students’ homework makes sessions fit in with the wider curriculum followed by the students’ teachers. This creates an ideal learning environment both at home and at school. Closer to exam time, it is best to attempts exam questions allowing us to identify weaknesses and strengths.
I tutor via Zoom, using an interactive whiteboard, and this has worked very well with students.
