I am an experienced personal tutor with great enthusiasm for my work with my students. I graduated from University College London with an Honours Degree in English and have been teaching since 2003. In conjunction with my teaching, I am a professional actor based in Maidstone, Kent and have a Masters Degree in Performance. I also have 'Above Standard' Qualifications in teaching English as a Foreign Language.
I have an outgoing, affable and patient personality and relish working closely with students. As you will see from my Feedback, I have an excellent rapport with my tutees, and many of my current students contacted me after a personal recommendation from a previous client.
I have been tutoring on a one-to-one basis for over eighteen years. I have good experience of working with students who wish to excel in their work and also with those who are struggling and need extra help. Without fail, all my students have made improvements in their understanding and many have jumped several grade boundaries in their exams.
Previous to private tutoring, I taught English as a Foreign Language at Oxford House College, London, teaching a range of nationalities, age groups and abilities (from the most basic to the highly advanced). I, therefore, have a firm understanding of grammar and its practical application. I have also facilitated drama workshops.
As an actor and experienced teacher, my approach to tutoring is hands-on, encouraging discussion in a tutorial instead of just rote, formulaic teaching. I believe students who enjoy their lessons learn more and therefore I endeavour to make study flexible and relaxed. My Masters focused on different methods of learning, so I understand that students study in very individual ways and I tailor my teaching methods accordingly.
