I am offering both on-line and face to face teaching at my home in Weaverham. I live in mid-Cheshire so convenient for everyone in the county. As well as a primary class-room teacher, I am a keen musician (with a music degree from the University of London), and teach singing and piano for beginners and 'cello to intermediate level. I also prepare students for their ABRSM Grade 5 theory exam. I have my own dedicated teaching space in my home but happy to travel to students' location for extended sessions of 2 hours or more.
I have been a Primary School Teacher and Deputy Head, in both maintained and independent sectors for 28 years. I have extensive knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum, requirements for 11+ entrance tests and Independent School Scholarship and Entrance Exams. Whilst teaching at Bury Grammar School, I became a Curriculum Leader. I have taught children with a range of specific learning needs including dyslexia and dyspraxia. I have observed colleagues teach, and I am committed to the Teachers' Standards - I understand what constitutes a good lesson. I have lead BGS Junior School in Safeguarding training and I am familiar with current safeguarding issues. I am an experienced tutor both face to face an online.
With a sound understanding of current teaching trends, curriculum and assessments, I work professionally and knowledgeably, bringing out the best in children of all ages and abilities. I prepare children for Key Stage 1 and 2 SATS, 11+tests, entrance examinations as well as supporting those who need that 'extra boost' to help them improve their learning skills with an individual learning package. I have a wide range of resources designed to help pupils improve and gain confidence in their abilities and I use varied teaching techniques - practical activities, formal practice, problem solving and investigations as well as playing games, which all children love, designed to motivate them and to help them develop good learning habits. I believe that my committed and enthusiastic teaching style enables my students to work to their full potential; this then has a positive effect in all other areas of their education.
