Hello, my name is Fiona. I am a fully qualified and experienced Head of English at a London Prep School. With over a decade of teaching experience I have a solid grasp of the UK curriculum and the changing needs of pupils as they go through school. I have a positive can-do attitude and love to get to know my students to help them enjoy learning. I will use my sense of humour and love of learning to motivate your child and design lessons that will be engaging, challenging and nurturing.
I possess over a decade of experience as a qualified Teacher. My journey has taken me to a range of schools in both London and Brighton College Bangkok in Thailand. This diverse exposure has endowed me with a wealth of knowledge regarding teaching methodologies, best practices, and the preparation required for various onward educational institutions. In recent years, I have focused my expertise on Independent Schools, primarily within London. However, I have a solid grasp of entry requirements for schools throughout the UK.
Currently, a specialist English Teacher, I focus on creative writing, reading comprehension and grammar. I have also worked as a specialist Maths teacher to KS2 and KS3. I would also be happy to tutor GCSE Maths. I have a real passion for Maths and English and enjoy teaching both. My main objective is to build student confidence, provide opportunities for success and develop a resilient growth mindset to ensure they can tackle any questions with confidence. I have received praise from many parents in the development of their child's confidence and outlook towards Maths and English (who previously had a very negative self image regarding these core subjects).
I am friendly and approachable and love designing fun and interactive lessons. I have experience supporting pupils with SEN needs, specifically ADD, ADHD and Dyslexia. I will tailor make lessons to support and target individual needs. I also have experience teaching abroad (2 years in Thailand) and would be happy to work with pupils where English is not their first language.
I understand the pressure of preparing for exams and will incorporate positive mindset, managing stress and exam technique and opportunities to build self-esteem and confidence within my lessons.
