Does your child need a boost in the weeks leading up to GCSE English, English Literature, or A level English literature? I offer blocks of 4-6 individual tutorial sessions to help students sharpen their skills, overcome weaknesses or fill gaps in their subject knowledge. My experience comes from nearly 30 years of teaching, and my subject knowlege has been built on degrees from Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
I have seen the benefits of one-to-one tuition in my students' outstanding exam results, and in their enhanced confidence. Today's children are predicted to have more than one career in their lifetimes, and to find delight in learning is the best preparation for whatever their future holds. I help my tutees discover their own strengths and gifts, and give them the tools to turn their efforts into success.
Tutoring Experience
Teaching English in two schools, state (Cambridge) and independent (Tunbridge Wells), as well as tutoring privately for the last ten years, has shown me that most breakthroughs happen in a one-to-one teaching situation. Having been Head of Sixth Form and Assistant Head of School, I can also offer advice with university applications and Personal Statements.
Tutoring Approach
Understanding the student's current level of confidence and attainment is the first step, followed quickly by establishing his or her objectives from the tuition. We then formulate a plan to achieve them. Maintaining interest, consolidating, building confidence and giving a sense of progress are all crucial elements of my teaching methods.
For students who come to me for exam revision this process is accelerated, the aim being to build confidence through revision of texts with a focus on exam technique.
