Hi there! I am a student from London who is currently studying Classics at Oxford University. I sat my A-Levels this summer in which I achieved three A*’s in Classical Civilisation, English Literature, and History. I also achieved only A’s and A*’s in my GCSE examinations. I would describe myself as quite a bubbly person and I also enjoyed various extra-curriculars at school such as being in the school choir and taking part in the musicals. Whilst being in Oxford I have also joined various groups such as my college Jazz-band and the Oxford University Drama Society.
As I’ve been doing my own examinations for two years I haven’t taught people extensively so my experience ranges from reading mentoring for younger pupils, to tutoring for family friends before their examinations. However, since I have taken my exams fairly recently, it means I still have access to all the material I created for A-level and GCSE Revision which can be extremely useful. I also have experience with younger students as I have taken part volunteering at my old primary school and with younger siblings who I also help.
My teaching approach would definitely be to prioritise making a comfortable but effective environment for work. I know that often speaking out in class about things you don’t understand is intimidating and that is the opposite of what I think tutorial sessions should be. In my sessions I wan the student to feel comfortable asking any question so that we can unpick it and really solidify an understanding. Regarding revision, my approach also highlights specific different ways in which you can achieve your full potential and I am happy to go at whatever pace the parents/pupil are happy to do so. For example, I am happy to take either a slower approach which aims to build understanding or a more intensive approach which aims for the top marks. My approach is very versatile and I can use my resources and academic experience in whatever way seems best fit.
