I am a recently retired teacher of physics.
I have recently retired following 32 years teaching physics at a top Belfast grammar school.
I joined the CCEA physics A level marking panel 12 years ago and have marked a written paper every year since. The last 2 years I have also assisted in the marking of both the A2 and AS practical exams.
I have been tutoring for 12 years.
I have built up a sizable resource which I would normally access in the course of a tutoring session as well as use to provide appropriate consolidation work between sessions. I believe this continuity vital and expect every student to engage fully.
In my experience success in physics at the higher levels rests on a thorough grounding in the basics. A lack of specialist teachers in this subject has always been a problem and it would appear that this has been further compromised as a consequence of the recent pandemic.
