I recently took early retirement from a teaching career after 33 years, the last seventeen and a half as a deputy headteacher of a high school at Preston. I have three grown up children who are English teachers in sixth form colleges in different parts of the country, enjoy travel, running, reading, films and watching rugby. I live in a modern flat in the Warrington area easily accessible from the motorway network.
I have taught English at all levels in schools including GCSE, AS/A2, Scholarship and Oxbridge entry. I am a current GCSE examiner in English and have been for 16 years years but have also given private tuition to pupils of primary school age wanting to improve their English as well as those preparing for an interview at Oxford. For seven years I was a Head of English in a very successful 11 to 18 school in Cheshire. I have also taught Business Studies GCSE.
It is important to create a positive relationship with the tutee based upon a sympathetic understanding of what point of understanding exists and where the tutee and indeed his or her parents want to reach. The relationship needs to be interactive and both tutor and tutee need to be fully committed to responding appropriately to deadlines set.
