I am a dedicated and experienced educator with over 30 years experience. I strongly believe in creating an environment where students feel valued and are encouraged to reach their full potential. One of my strengths is the ability to diversify lessons according to the needs of the students. I am patient, adaptable and have a passion for education. I have lived in the UK for over 25 years and have spent most of this time teaching, both in a school environment and also online. Apart from teaching , I have a passion for tennis, Formula 1 and cooking.
I qualified as a secondary school science teacher, graduating with B.Ed (Hons) in 1993, and I got my QTS the following year. As you can imagine, I have decades of experience in teaching and understanding how to get students the grades they deserve and I have definitely taught the full range of abilities during this time. Throughout my years of teaching, I have had a 100% GCSE pass rate and students have also surpassed their target grades on most occasions. I am currently teaching GCSE Chemistry, Biology and junior science.
Throughout my years of teaching, I have implemented innovative lesson plans that cater for diverse learning styles and promote critical thinking. For instance, when teaching students who are visual learners I use countless visual memory aids such as integrating flashcards and activities centred around their learning needs. This helps them to learn as efficiently as possible, and makes it more enjoyable for the student on the whole.
Similarly, I enjoy utilising interactive software and digital resources, to make lessons more engaging and accessible to all students. For example, supplying students with links to games I have made which we can go through together, or set as homework, to add an element of fun into their studies.
My commitment to fostering a love for science is evident through my proven track record of improving student performance via tailored instruction and continuous assessment. I am proud to have achieved a 100% pass rate with all my students.
Many of the resources I use when teaching focus on this, where we will initially work through problems and concepts together, whilst being consistently quizzed to check understanding, supplemented with a range of exam questions and similar resources to ensure that their learning is thorough rather than superficial.
Creating a supportive environment that encourages questioning and constructive feedback is essential to my teaching philosophy. I ensure that students are not only knowledgeable but also able to apply their skills in practical contexts, especially crucial for tackling the more challenging GCSE-style application questions.
What sets me apart is my dedication to tailoring lessons to each student's specific needs. I prioritise identifying and addressing their struggles, adapting my methods to fit their learning styles. This allows them to improve continuously, reaching their full potential. Whether you need assistance with exam technique, content comprehension, or tackling 6-mark questions… I will develop a personalized plan to support your success!
My tutoring approach is rooted in creating an approachable, mistake-friendly environment. Over the years, I have fine-tuned my methods and am eager to help you achieve your goals. Together, we can open doors to a bright and successful future!
