I've mentored junior developers and have specifically been hired on occasion to bring teams up to speed or adopt good development practices.
Tutoring Approach
It varies a lot. Pair programming with individual programmers, making sure they are not trying to learn too many techniques at once.
With larger teams it can be quite different, especially if there is resistance to change.
