I am originally from Northern Ireland, but have lived in Edinburgh for over 20 years.
I graduated with a PhD in History from the University of Edinburgh in November 2022. My thesis examined a British Army Battalion from East Belfast who fought in World War One. I completed my doctorate whilst working full time.
I have a thorough grounding in modern British history, with a MSc in British and Irish History (Edinburgh University 2013) and a M.A Hons in Modern History (Dundee University 1995). My research interests include Irelands involvement in the Great War, the Northern Ireland Troubles.
2022-2023 Edinburgh University, School of History, Classics and Archaeology Writing Centre as a writing tutor. Planning and leading one to one writing tutorials for undergrads to discuss any stage of the writing process.
I've taught undergraduate students who were at very different stages in their academic careers, and there are a few steady principles that I have always tried to adhere to: I establish a rapport between the student and the teacher, I promote an active learning environment, I simpIify the material and I always give feedback. I have an appreciation that different people can have very different learning styles.
