I am a very experienced and knowledgeable physics tutor and qualified teacher with extensive experience of all main exam boards. I am reliable and organised and my aim is is to boost my students knowledge and confidence in all areas of physics. I hold an up to date enhanced DBS certificate.
I have been a very successful secondary school teacher for 35 years. Most recently I taught in a high achieving school where large numbers of students take physics at A level and a significant proportion gain the highest grades and continue to highly regarded universities. I am a physics graduate and have taught physics to A level every year since qualifying, including at GCSE level as triple science and also as part of combined/double science. For the majority of my teaching career I have been a Head of Physics or Head of Science so am very experienced at writing, marking and moderating assessments. I have also been a sixth form tutor and have experience of guiding students through the UCAS application process including with writing the personal statement.
As a private tutor I draw on all of my school teaching experience to plan and deliver lessons that suit the needs of the individual student. I prepare structured lessons involving relevant resources and I provide written feedback after each lesson on the lesson coverage and the student's progress. As a highly experienced qualified teacher, I am very familiar with the requirements of the examination boards as well as effective methods to enable students to gain high grades. I am aware of common misconceptions that students may have about different topics and how best to overcome misunderstandings. I can help with revision before assessments and can support students with developing successful exam techniques. I can also support students with the transition to A level either prior to starting the A level or during the course.
