Genevieve

I am an experienced and passionate English tutor with a breadth of expert knowledge. I am a university seminar tutor, prestigiously-funded PhD candidate, and prize-winning writer. My qualifications include two first class English Literature degrees from The University of Warwick (BA and MA), where I graduated top of my class in both. At A Level, I studied both English Literature and English Language, achieving 100% in both subjects.

During my academic career, I have continued to tutor, publish my own research, and to copy-edit academic journals. I have also worked in the admissions department at university so I feel confident that I can provide helpful insider knowledge for university applications.

I love to help my students increase in confidence and ability. The majority of my students achieve an A or A* in their exams (7, 8, or 9) and I have seen 100% of my students increase their marks by a minimum of 3 grade boundaries. I have seen my undergraduate students all improve their degree marks by at least one band, and I have seen my adult writing students soar in ability and confidence.

Tutoring Experience

I have 11 years' experience of mentor and teaching roles. I have been tutoring for 5 years and also currently teach undergraduates at Birkbeck, University of London. As well as academic tutoring, I have worked as a mentor for Young Carers, for Widening Participation organisations. I have a passion for education and for my subjects of expertise, and I feel strongly that - with the right help - any student can achieve their goals.

Tutoring Approach

I want you to love your subject. I want you to feel enthused, passionate, and to find something in the subject that you really care about. I tailor each lesson to the student's strengths, learning styles, and interests, offering creative and varied approaches to the texts. My ultimate goal is to teach students how to think like the marker, decoding the syllabus so that they not only meet but exceed its requirements. Each lesson is interactive and collaborative, and I provide exclusive workbooks and resources for my students which they can also use outside of lessons.
