I am a teaching assistant who is currently half way through obtaining my qualifications to become a teacher. I have a passion for education as seeing pupils expand their skill set and knowledge is an inspiring thing to watch. I have a range of interests from cooking to tabletop games.
I have a Masters in physics and I am part way through my teacher training degree from the University of York. During my studies in my teacher training course I have taught over 50 lessons, experienced in teaching classes from Year 7 to 6th form. I have experience in creating lessons for pupils of all ability ranges.
I am currently working as a Teaching assistant, this is to further broaden my skill set in managing classrooms and understanding the needs of SEN pupils.
There is no universal way to approach any given pupil. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses that need to be approached in different ways. I am a firm believer in following the science in pedagogical practices, from using demonstrated examples to help pupils better understand the solutions in science and maths, to breaking down more difficult problems into the individual skills required to complete them.
I am also a proponent of having the pupil take a more active role within their learning, where they are suggesting what they feel like they need more support in and using this to provide the guidance required to hit their goals. I would like to provide the first session of the tutoring for free where the tutee and I would establish what goals to set and what topics would need to be focused on.
