I have been a teacher now for over 15 years and have gained vast experience in teaching science. I enjoy teaching and working with young people to see them grow and develop their knowledge and confidence in the subject to help them get their dream job. I have tutored students before from different backgrounds to successful outcomes and GCSE and A-level and form strong working relationships with my students. I have access to a vast array of the latest exam board resources and am able to meet the needs to each and every student based on their knowledge and ability. I am naturally patient, have a good sense of humour and use real life applications to help students better understand various phenomena. As a current teacher and head of science department, I am already DBS checked, and my Qualified Teacher Status certificates are available to view.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, I have strong knowledge of the curriculum, adapting my teaching methods to suit the ability of students and current exam board requirements. I lead my science department as Head of Science and have been doing so for a few years now. I am an examiner for an exam board and have strong knowledge of what the examiner wants to see when they mark GCSE/A-level papers. I have a track record of strong results having worked in a number of different schools across the UK. My knowledge and experience will be a perfect match for your tutoring needs and will ensure that each student not only becomes confident in their knowledge, but are able to articulate their responses to exam questions both verbally and in written form with clarity and integrity.
I have access to and regularly use past paper exam questions, quizzing and short and long term recall as I believe that regular low stake quizzing and applying knowledge to unfamiliar contexts, such as those often found in exam questions, are the best way to establish whether you understand a topic or not. This approach is also scientifically proven to boost the ability of the brain to know more and remember more, especially as facts are constantly revisited. I then use the score from these questions to diagnose the issue (e.g. need more help in topic X/Y/Z) and then use my resources, written by experts in the teaching field, to confidently teach the content and reassess. I will only move on to another topic when the current topic is taught and the student is as confident as they can be on the current topic.
