I have recently graduated from the University of Birmingham after studying a masters in Cardiovascular Research. Prior to this, I studied Biology at the University of Nottingham. I have always had a passion to help other students to fully understand and enjoy science. I use different teaching methods tailored to the needs of the student to ensure their learning is maximised. I am a very friendly and approachable person who is easy to get along with which is important to ensure students feel they can ask for help when needed.
I have a younger sister who sometimes has struggled with some harder science topics. Being 2 years older than her and having already experiencing the struggles of GCSE’s and A-Levels meant I could easily identify the areas of the curriculum she was struggling with and I then made a plan to help her with revision and recapping of certain topics. I would then help explain these topics using online resources and diagrams and then find or create practice questions to determine her level of understanding.
I have tutored students of various abilities across different exam boards, tailoring each session to ensure the students understanding and enjoyment is maximised. This tutoring has been completed both in person and online.
In the first session with a new student, we would set some goals for what they want to achieve and note individual topics they are less confident with and would like to look at further. I would set objectives for each session which would be reviewed at the end to test understanding, helping the student to see themselves where they are improving and where a bit more work may be needed. After explaining/recapping topics using different resources, I feel practice is one of the best ways to test understanding and exam technique so that we can find evaluate the topics that need to be further studied. I am also very open to using different techniques that individual students may find helpful as I understand that not everyone learns in the same way.
I will always ask for feedback from the student after each session to gauge which resources helped them to understand topics the best so that I can use these in any future sessions with that same student. This will also help the student to identify the best methods they can use during personal revision for exams.
