My name is Hazel and I’m pursuing a BA in English and Modern Languages (French) at the University of Oxford. I was educated at various schools in Hong Kong and the UK, and I’ve taught in the UK as well as France. I graduated with 4A*s at A Level and straight A*s at GCSE.
I can offer you online English, French, ESL or Oxbridge/university preparation sessions.
Alongside my tutees on FirstTutors, I had the pleasure of working for the British Council, teaching English in Northern France for eight months. This included spearheading the English curriculum for around two hundred students as well as delivering lessons in classes up to thirty. It was--actually--a lot of fun!
I've assisted in teaching English and basic arithmetic in primary school classrooms. I have also tutored GCSE pupils at secondary schools in GCSE English Language and Literature, as well as study skills and exam preparation. These students went on to achieve straight passes in their GCSE (compared to all fails in their mock exams).
I am trained in ESL, with a Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I can provide a DBS check upon request.
I always prioritise building a good relationship with my tutees. Let’s face it: a classroom doesn’t exactly have the best connotations for students. Through establishing an interactive and enjoyable learning environment, in a relaxed and informal setting, can make a world of difference.
I create implementable ways for my students to consolidate their academic progress both within and beyond the classroom. My rate includes not only the work during the hour, but also tailored lesson preparation that goes on outside the hour, as well as the setting and marking of homework.
I don’t dish out a cookie-cutter experience. While one student may excel at comprehension, another may find it an obstacle. I tailor each lesson to the needs of each student.
When I was in school, I was frustrated by unstructured and minimal-effort lessons. I don’t believe in teaching without the desire to inspire. I aim to cultivate a pupil’s conception of the world around them.
