I love teaching Maths and explaining it to students. I like attending Maths conferences like those run by La Salle Education. I follow various Maths teachers on Twitter which has provided me with great ideas and resources. I am a married mum of 3 and am involved a kids' club at our church.
I taught in a 6th form college for 4.5 years then had a long break raising my family during which time I did some private tuition and some public exam marking. I did a return to teaching course 12 years ago, had a maternity cover and then some supply teaching and then from 2011 to 2019 I taught A level Maths part time at Bournemouth and Poole College. Since then I have been in St Peters Catholic School as a volunteer in Maths lessons for 2 days a week until Covid hit and done some tutoring since January.
I like to both mix up the topics taught and repeat topics covered. I will teach some skills and then give opportunity to practise. I don't like to teach too many skills in one session as students need time to consolidate. I encourage students to write down all the steps in their working, if necessary articulating it first to help them describe it fully. I will set homework between sessions if appropriate and will direct them to various websites for extra resources they can make use of themselves.
