Ian Removed is a fully qualified and very experienced teacher of Economics, an experienced A Level Economics examiner, and experienced in advising students for UCAS applications.
He obtained a B.A. (Hons) 2: 1 in Economic History at Sheffield University in 1971, and completed his PGCSE teaching qualification at Leeds University in 1972. His specialist teaching subjects being Economics and History.
Ian’s teaching career has developed with a variety of experience over the years. In 1972 he began teaching Economics and History to the O Level qualification at a secondary school in Durham. Wanting to gain experience in A Level teaching, he moved to Beaconsfield High School in Buckinghamshire in 1974. At this school he taught A Level Economics and History, becoming Head of Economics, leading the teaching of the subject to A Level - his first group of eight A Level students all gained a grade A for the subject.; and high-grade results remained the theme throughout his time at the school.
Wanting to develop himself further, while continuing to work full time at the school in Beaconsfield, Ian became a part time student at the Institute of Education, University of London. In 1986 Ian received a Distinction for a Diploma in Education from the University of London; and in 1988 completed an M.A with Distinction. In both cases the theme was Economics and Education.
Ian continued teaching in Beaconsfield, specialising in Economics as his subject, for a few more years; also increasingly involved in leading Debating and Public Speaking activities, including some success in national competitions.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ian decided to volunteer with East European Partnership, a subdivision of the UK Voluntary Service Overseas. Ian taught Economics in Riga, Latvia, for four years. This time also involved developing Public Speaking activities in schools across the country. – including training a student who became international champion of the worldwide English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition.
Continuing his interest in teaching Economics in international situations, in 1999 Ian moved to the British International Prague, in the Czech Republic, where he taught Economics to A Level and to International Baccalaureate, as well as being very involved in the management of the international school and the development of IB programmes.
In 2005 Ian moved to the British School in Delhi, India, taking responsibility for the secondary school and teaching A Level Economics. After one year there it was time to return to the UK for family reasons.
Ian’s time in the UK since then has involved some time working as an Economics Examiner for Cambridge International A Level exams. His main responsibility has been as a teacher, leader of Economics teaching and Senior Manager, at Kings School, Oxford - a school with students from all over the world.
If asked what he teaches, Ian will say he teaches students. Each one is different, with their own strengths, weakness and needs. His aim is to establish, with good humour, a formal, comfortable, trusting relationship, identifying the guidance and advice each student will need.
I am a full trained and very experienced teacher and tutor of Economics , having prepared many students for examinations at A Level, International Baccalaureate and other examinations. My first contact with a student will be to establish exactly what help they need - for example which area of knowledge do they need to develop further; what help do they need in producing effective answers to questions. answers to questions. I expect a student to ask me questions , respond to my advice and build from it by making effective use of their time outside tutorials. They will discover a knowledgeable, experienced tutor with empathy and an understanding of the pressure a student may be following, and the most appropriate help they will need.
