Imani

I recently graduated from Cambridge University with a First in the social sciences. I specialised in Sociology, but have also studied Politics and English Literature at undergraduate level.

At school I took History, English and Classics for my A Levels and achieved three A*s. At GCSE level I have ten A* in a range of subjects.

With dreams to be a writer I am currently working on a novel. I am also interested in pursuing journalism and was the winner of the British Vogue Writing contest in 2019. I love backpacking, theatre and great food. As a fresh graduate I am currently trying to find my way with things, and am looking to tutor full time over the next year.

Tutoring Experience

I was previously a tutor with the Girls' Network, teaching GCSE Level students in London. I have also tutored GCSE English Literature online and in-person for the past four years.

One of my previous students said, 'Without Imani tutoring me I would not have felt so prepared, confident or supported going into my exam.' Her mum kindly added that she '...loved her lessons - which is a miracle because she hated and dreaded English Lit at school'.

In the last year I have written extensively on our current education system. I have previously worked with Eton College, Guy Claxton - co-author of 'Educating Ruby' and Cambridge University on measures to reform and de-colonise education.

Tutoring Approach

I want my tutees to achieve the highest grades possible, but am also keen to broaden their educational experience: putting an emphasis on why they learn what they learn, so that not only do they master the correct exam techniques but they can develop their own intellectual ideas and enjoyment of the subject.

I fully understand the stress of exams and ensure I provide clear and logical instructions that also reassure. I believe that having recently experienced the stresses and requirements of the education system puts me in a great position to both empathise with and tutor students.
