My name is Jacob and I'm a young aspiring Lawyer driven to understand the psychological, sociological and theoretical drivers of crime and societal experience. I enjoy academic studies and being able to support other young people to understand the value of academic proficiency and achieve their personal best. Alongside this, I also enjoy practical learning through my role as a qualified gymnastic coach and judge and further supporting young people's welfare in my role as a lifeguard. In all of these roles, it is essential for me to remain up to date with national standards and expectations through continued professional development. Through my role as a tutor, I aim to build a good working relationship with those I am interacting with, allowing both parties to benefit and achieve the goals of academic excellence and bettering oneself.
I have completed 6 weeks of work experience in a primary school working predominantly with year 6 students as a teaching assistant aiding their transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. During the last two years in 6th from I have been recognised as proficient (having received academic excellence awards) in my studies of A Level English, Psychology and Sociology driving me to become a mentor and point of call for other students struggling with these subjects throughout their time within secondary education. This has driven me to support multiple friends and family members during their progression into GCSE and A Level exams while also completing my own studies.
Over the last through years, my approach to learning has become more and more experiential approach. I encourage young people to apply the concepts they are learning with personal experiences to help embed knowledge. Through data tracking and progress reviews, I am able to work with young people to be reflective and set new goals for their learning. As well as this, I aim to help students to integrate the knowledge they are struggling with, with the knowledge they are confident with to scaffold new knowledge to baseline understanding.
Within the initial tutoring session, I aim to build a strong rapport with the prospective tutee, establish specific academic needs and desires, understand the way in which you like to be taught and decipher a plan of action to meet goals and targets.
