Hello! My name is Jake, and I am an MPhys student at the University of Liverpool, currently on track to achieve a first-class honours degree. I have a strong academic background in physics and mathematics, with particular expertise in computational modelling, statistical analysis, and data-driven research.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience tutoring students in physics, mathematics, and programming (Python, C++), helping them build confidence in problem-solving and critical thinking. My background in computational modelling, statistical analysis, and data-driven research allows me to provide insightful explanations and practical problem-solving strategies.

In addition to tutoring, I have led and contributed to projects that apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. I developed Python code for a Monte Carlo simulation of particle scattering, validating results using ROOT, and led a team to model and visualise a nuclear reactor’s power output using Python and Pygame.

This summer, I will be visiting CERN, where I will gain hands-on experience in high-energy physics experiments and particle detection methods. This opportunity will further enhance my expertise in physics and data analysis, allowing me to bring even more real-world applications into my teaching.

These experiences have strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible and engaging way.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring is structured around the syllabus to ensure students fully understand each topic required for their exams. I systematically cover all syllabus points, clarifying key concepts and making sure students grasp both the theory and its applications. By working through past paper questions and exam-style problems, I help students develop the problem-solving skills needed to apply their knowledge effectively in an exam setting.

I focus on identifying any gaps in understanding and revisiting challenging areas until students feel confident. My teaching method is interactive, encouraging students to engage with the material rather than just memorising facts. Whether it's breaking down complex physics principles, guiding students through mathematical problem-solving, or helping with programming concepts, my goal is to ensure students master each part of the syllabus and achieve their best possible results.
