Since being convinced by my teacher not to give up on Biology after AS-Level, I have since gone on to pass my A-Level Biology, an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Doctorate in Medical Sciences. Throughout these degrees and my later experiences working in the biotechnology industry, I have learnt to communicate scientific principles at all levels of education in a simple, yet effective manner to help increase understanding of various concepts.
I have had extensive teaching experience throughout my PhD, tutoring undergraduate Biology students and helping to teach them various scientific principles in practical laboratory sessions. I also have a lot of experience tutoring online. Due to the times we live in, this has had to be the primary method for tutoring, which comes with its own challenges, so I ensure that I prepare lessons in advance, using slide shows that engage the student in online learning. These slides are always made available to the student after the session for further revision.
I try and explain things as simply as possible. I thoroughly believe that if you do not explain something in a simple manner, you do not understand it enough yourself. I always try to incorporate metaphors that students can relate to and understand, helping them to better grasp scientific principles. These metaphors often help students remember different scientific concepts, helping them during examinations.
