Chemistry and Biology Tuition in Bolton

I am a passionate and committed science educator with a strong background in both academic research and industry. My early career included postdoctoral research at Hope Hospital (University of Manchester) and the North Staffordshire Hospital Centre (Keele University), where I investigated the genetic and molecular aspects of human pathologies. I also worked as a Quality and Technical Manager for a Clinical Research Organisation in a bioanalytical safety assessment laboratory. Alongside science, I have a personal interest in environmental conservation and the impact of human activity on biodiversity.

Tutoring Experience

I completed my PGCE in Secondary Science (specialising in Chemistry) at Edge Hill University. Since 2011, I have been teaching at an independent school on the Fylde Coast, delivering Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE level, and Biology and Chemistry at A-Level. I have experience supporting both high-ability learners and students with a wide range of special educational needs. My teaching has been recognised through positive feedback from AQA during practical assessment visits, noting the centre's well-structured and accurately assessed delivery of practical science.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach is centred on identifying and addressing gaps in factual knowledge, then building a strong conceptual understanding. I coach students in applying this knowledge to explain scientific phenomena and solve problems. Particular focus is given to understanding and interpreting exam command words, so that students can confidently approach exam-style questions. Whether working one-to-one or in small groups, I aim to spark curiosity and help students make rapid and sustained progress by sharing my enthusiasm for science.
