Online Tuition for English and Special Needs

I began my career in early years education, working across nurseries and primary schools. A few years ago, I recognised my passion for providing personalised support and began focusing on tutoring and one-to-one assistance. I’ve always been skilled at building strong relationships and adapting to the needs of individual learners. My experience leading nurture groups and supporting SEND students led me to expand my work into private tutoring, where I’ve been specialising for the past five years.

In my current role as a private tutor, I focus on supporting children and young people with a range of educational needs. This includes teaching primary English, supporting college and university students with childcare and education coursework, and teaching English as a Second Language to both adults and children. I’ve also worked extensively with students with additional needs, such as Dyslexia and Autism, drawing on my background as a 1:1 SEND support assistant.

I take pride in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel confident and motivated. For example, I’ve helped students improve their literacy skills, master challenging course content, and build confidence in their abilities. Beyond academic support, I focus on developing my students’ independence and a love of learning.

I’m especially excited about continuing to expand my impact, bringing my commitment to personalised education and proven strategies to new challenges.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 12 years of teaching experience, working in diverse roles across the education sector. I began my journey in nurseries and primary schools, where I developed a strong foundation in supporting children’s learning and development. During this time, I also worked in wrap-around care programmes, which allowed me to build strong relationships with children and families while supporting their educational and social needs outside of school hours.

For the past five years, I’ve been a private tutor, a role I embraced during the lockdown to support children in my family with their phonics and literacy skills. This experience ignited a passion for personalised teaching, and I soon expanded my services to work with students across various levels, from primary school to university. I specialise in English, childcare, and health and social care, helping students build their confidence and achieve academic success.

In addition to core academic support, I’ve also taught English as a Second Language to children and adults, further enhancing my ability to adapt my teaching to diverse needs. My experience extends to working closely with students with special educational needs, such as Dyslexia, Autism, and other learning difficulties. As a former 1:1 SEND support assistant and nurture group leader, I gained valuable skills in tailoring lessons, building trust, and fostering positive learning environments for children who require extra support.

My teaching philosophy is student-centred, focusing on building confidence, independence, and a love for learning. I take pride in my ability to adapt my methods to suit each individual, ensuring they feel supported and empowered to succeed. Whether teaching foundational skills or advanced concepts, my goal is always to inspire growth and resilience in my students.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach is student-centred, adaptable, and rooted in building confidence and independence. I believe that every learner is unique, so I tailor my lessons to suit their individual needs, learning styles, and goals. Whether I’m teaching young children phonics, guiding older students through coursework, or supporting those with additional needs, my aim is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.

I prioritise open communication and ensure that my students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing themselves. I use a variety of techniques to make lessons interactive and enjoyable, such as incorporating practical examples, visuals, and hands-on activities. For students with additional needs, I provide personalised support by breaking down concepts into manageable steps and using strategies that align with their strengths.

Assessment and progress tracking are integral to my teaching approach. I regularly assess students’ understanding through informal discussions, quizzes, and practical tasks. This helps me identify areas for improvement and celebrate achievements, which motivates students to keep progressing. I also work closely with parents, carers, or guardians to ensure we’re all aligned in supporting the student’s learning journey.

Above all, I strive to foster a love of learning. My goal is to help students develop not only the skills they need to succeed academically but also the confidence to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
