Hello there! let me introduce myself as Jayne, your friendly and professional online tutor. With 22 years of experience teaching secondary sciences in a secondary school, I have developed a deep passion for nurturing students' love for science and helping them achieve their full potential. I hold a degree in Biology, PGCE and QTS for more than twenty two years. Throughout my teaching career, I have specialised in teaching biology, chemistry, and physics for both Key Stages 3 and 4. Science has always fascinated me, and I firmly believe in its power to shape our understanding of the world around us. My goal as a tutor is to instill this same love and curiosity for science in my students.
When I'm not teaching, I indulge in my other passions. Music is a significant part of my life, and I enjoy playing the cello and piano during my spare time and indulge in a range of artistic styles, including a variety of paint mediums and sculpting. The world outside the classroom also captivates me, and I love immersing myself in nature and the great outdoors. Whether it's going on hikes, exploring new trails, or simply observing the wonders of the natural world, I find solace and inspiration in its beauty.

Tutoring Experience

In addition to my extensive experience in teaching secondary sciences, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in working with students aged 11 to 16. I firmly believe that continuity, a strong rapport, and trust are the key ingredients for building confidence quickly and creating a happier student. By establishing a positive and supportive relationship, I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable expressing their doubts, asking questions, and taking risks in their learning.

I understand the importance of equipping students with not only subject knowledge but also essential study skills and exam techniques. I believe that these skills are equally crucial in helping students excel academically. Throughout my teaching career, I have emphasised the development of effective study habits, time management, and revision strategies, empowering my students to become independent and efficient learners.

For the past 20 years, I have also served as a Head of Year, providing support to students on their educational journey, both academically and pastorally. This role has given me invaluable insight into the unique challenges and pressures students face, allowing me to offer guidance and mentorship to help them navigate their academic and personal growth.

During periods of lockdown and remote learning, I have adapted my teaching approach to effectively engage students online. However, I understand that face-to-face learning is the preferred method for many. I have also had the opportunity to work with smaller groups of students and provide one-on-one support, tailoring my teaching to address individual learning needs and helping students overcome any barriers they may encounter.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching journey has been witnessing the transformation of struggling students into confident and successful learners. By employing differentiated instructional strategies, personalised attention and a nurturing approach, I have helped numerous students overcome challenges, grasp complex scientific concepts, and achieve their academic goals.
