I am a private tutor from Yorkshire and a Modern Foreign Languages graduate from the University of Edinburgh. I have spent time teaching EFL in France and Spain and primary subjects in the UK both in schools and as a private tutor. I now give primary tuition services in KS2 maths, English, MFL and in preparation for 11+ entrance exams online and in-person around the York area to schooled and home-educated pupils.
I love the opportunity that private tuition offers to tailor support according to the needs and learning styles of each child and the chance it allows for confidence and self-esteem to be built during the sessions. The pace, focus, and goals of the lessons can be adjusted to suit the child’s abilities, and a safe, friendly, and comfortable environment is created which means that learners have the confidence to ask questions and speak out. The tuition environment can help children to develop their own drive and motivation to learn and it builds a greater sense of belief in their own abilities.
I have 10 years of teaching experience as a teacher in the UK, in nursery and primary schools in France and Spain, and as a private tutor both in the UK and abroad. In addition to this, I have worked as an English as a Foreign Language tutor in a language college so I have a lot of experience teaching the primary curriculum and English as a Foreign Language.
I have a PGCE in primary education and CELTA and TEFL qualifications and I now work exclusively as a private tutor in York offering maths, English, and Spanish tuition to schooled and home-educated pupils. I also teach children and adults online and in person in EFL in the UK and abroad.
I have experience in teaching all age groups from early primary to adults, of planning lessons, and carrying out assessments. I know how to encourage all students to achieve their full potential and believe that appropriate challenge and encouraging an enjoyment of learning is the key towards achieving success. During the first session, I discuss the needs of the child and we set out a scheme of lessons to help them achieve their goals and objectives. I can provide homework to be completed outside of the sessions and can mark and give feedback on this.
I have a positive outlook and aim to develop a good rapport with all pupils by creating a cooperative and calm atmosphere. I strive to deliver exciting and engaging lessons using familiar, real-life experiences, fun games, and tailored resources using a variety of teaching methods best suited to each child. I am patient and flexible with my time, and I am willing to persevere in order to ensure that all students have fun whilst succeeding in reaching their goals.
