I have a lifetime of teaching experience, retiring from classroom teaching in 2020. I was for many years Head of Languages and an Assistant Headteacher at a leading girl's grammar school. I have also taught in mixed schools, both comprehensive and private, and at a leading girls' independent school. I have a first-class degree and gained a distinction in both the theory and the practice of education in my PGCE. Since 2020 I have been giving private tuition very successfully. I am DBS checked and fully vaccinated. All certificates and suitable ID will be shown as requested at the first lesson.
I have an excellent track record of outstanding public examination results, most recently in two leading girls’ schools. My degree is actually in Russian Studies but I did French as a subsidiary subject for the first two years of the course. As Russian is not widely taught in UK schools, the bulk of my teaching experience over several decades has been French. Many of my French students have been accepted at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. My fluency has been maintained through regular exchanges and visits to France and working with (indeed sometimes teaching!) native French speakers.
I am calm, friendly and supportive and my main aim is to foster confidence and a can-do attitude in my students. I use a variety of teaching and learning styles and I want my students to enjoy what they are doing and ask as many questions as they like.
