Hi – I have a BA in Classical Civilisation and Medieval Studies from the University of Wales. I also have a Masters degree in Historical Studies. I have a good sense of humour and LOVE Monty Python & Blackadder.
I worked in the heritage industry before becoming a teacher. I am currently Head of History in a school in North Wales. I love History and really enjoy sharing this with young people – nearly every pupil in my GCSE class went on to study History at A Level - hopefully this means they enjoyed it!
I have been consistently rated as Outstanding for the past six years. I organise PD for history teachers in my county and I am also responsible for supporting over fifty history departments in my role as AD Coordinator for the Prince's Teaching Insistute.
I have been very successful in my job and have raised A*-C passes from 44% when I arrived at my school to 89% last year.
To help my pupils get every advantage for the exam, I work as an examiner for OCR. I know exactly how to write perfect exam style answers and how to explain what the examiner is looking for. I have developed many resources to help young people understand exactly what they need to do. I have examined for Edexcel and am currently working for WJEC. I am Head of History at an 11-18 school in North Wales.
I also work for the exam board with the Controlled Assessment. I understand the requirements completely and make sure other schools do.
I teach younger pupils to have a deep love and sophisticated understanding of history, but focus those in an exam year so they will know the paper and mark scheme inside out.
I try to make History fun and interesting (this is not hard as it probably is the most interesting subject). I mix content learning and revision with a full understanding of the exam.
I am also qualified in SEN and work with dyslexics.
