I love teaching Chemistry. It is a very difficult subject at school level, as it combines the need to understand complex concepts with the ability to remember a significant number of facts. The moment when ‘the penny drops’ is wonderful; it is frequently because there is a missing link in earlier knowledge; it is not going to happen without hard work and application. Those moments are the ones that motivate me.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a Chemistry teacher throughout my working life, mostly as Head of Chemistry, in the maintained sector and in independent schools, in UK and abroad. Through much of that time, I was tutoring students privately with considerable success.

Tutoring Approach

With experience both in the classroom and as a private tutor, I know the subject material very well, so am able to give students confidence. The relationship between student & tutor is key to the students success. There is the opportunity to be less formal than in school, but as it is one to one, to be able to expect a very high level of commitment. Here is no place to hide! I have found that as confidence builds, commitment, and success follow. So my approach is informal, but demanding.
