I qualified as a Classics teacher in 1997 and have spent my teaching career working in the independent sector. As well as teaching Latin, Classics and English, I have loved being involved in the busy life of a day / boarding school, and I have coached hockey and cricket.
I have recently retired from classroom teaching after 27 years, having taught Latin up to Common Entrance and Scholarship level, as well as up to GCSE level and beyond. My expertise lies with the language rather than the literature, and over the last few months I have worked particularly hard to ensure that my 'online' teaching is of the highest quality. If you're struggling with understanding Latin grammar and therefore finding translation work somewhat challenging, then I would be delighted to help. I have lots of experience with both OCR and Eduqas GCSE examination boards.
Always listening to and assessing the needs of my pupils, I will adapt my teaching approach to suit their requirements in order to focus on the areas of grammar where help is most needed. I am organised and my lessons are always well planned. With lots of useful resources and study aids to help the student preparing for GCSE Latin, I will work hard to ensure that my students can fulfil their academic potential in Latin. I am currently teaching small groups and would be happy to consider this if it helps. Our lessons will be challenging but also fun, and adapted to build confidence!
